The Rolfing® 10-Series

For those new to Rolfing, the 10-Series is the most thorough approach to achieving a desired outcome. If feasible, it is highly recommended as it offers a comprehensive way to address the body’s structural needs. Traditionally, Rolfing Structural Integration is practiced over a series of ten sessions, each lasting between 75-90 minutes. Each session builds on the last, with the ultimate goal of bringing the body into optimal alignment and balance.

The 10-Series is designed to systematically reorganize the body, releasing tensional patterns and restoring a natural state of balance and ease unique to each individual. Throughout the process, clients are guided through movement education, body biomechanics, and somatic awareness, helping them discover the most efficient ways to use their bodies based on their unique limitations, history, and needs.

Continuing the work outside of each Rolfing session is crucial for long-term success. Lasting change happens when the patterns we discuss during sessions are recognized and actively adjusted in your daily habits. Rolfing is most effective when these patterns of movement and posture are noticed, explored, and consciously changed, allowing the body to integrate the realignment and improvements achieved in each session. By making these shifts in your everyday life, you support the body’s ongoing transformation and ensure more lasting results.

For some individuals, 12 or more sessions may be necessary, especially if full ScarWork sessions are included or if specific areas of the body require more focused attention. This extended series allows for a deeper exploration and resolution of issues, ensuring the best possible outcomes for long-term balance and function.

Session 1-3

The first three sessions focus on the neck, chest, side of the body, feet, and lower leg. The objective is to start unraveling old tissue patterns to improve breathing, create sound support through the feet, and lengthen the body, creating more front/back/side/side balance.

Session 4-7

Here we delve further into the "core" of the body, addressing the pelvis, viscera (organs), abdomen, sacrum & spine, face and cranium. These sessions can often bring about a heightened level of physical, energetic, or emotional awareness, which can be carried into everyday life.

Session 8-10

These sessions are dedicated to addressing any remaining areas that need attention to integrate the body as a whole. Some of the work during these sessions may revisit common trouble spots. As the body begins to settle into the previous bodywork, individuals typically experience a sense of relaxation, increased energy, and overall physical well-being during the final three sessions.

After the Rolfing Series

After completing a Rolfing Series, the body often continues to integrate and evolve for several months. It is generally recommended to take a break of 2-6 months from sessions, allowing your body to settle into its new alignment and adapt to daily movement patterns.

If you’ve already completed a Rolfing Series, we can still support the changes you’ve achieved by continuing our work together. Many people opt for monthly maintenance sessions or come in every couple of months to ensure the benefits are sustained. If you have a physically demanding job or hobbies that place extra strain on your body, more frequent sessions may be beneficial to counteract the stress.

These Post-10 sessions can include a combination of techniques such as Rolfing, SourcePoint Therapy, Rolf Movement, and ScarWork Therapy. The goal is to continue supporting your body as it adapts and evolves, helping you maintain balance and ease as you move through life.
